Weekend Tunes: July 6, 2018

If you’re out and about this summer and missing the Dixie Chicken, sadly we can’t mail you a Freddy Burger or T-Fries, but what we can do is help you get your playlist started so you’ve at least got the music of the Chicken with you. We’re known for our outlaw, Americana, classic country, Texas/Red Dirt sounds and we’re very proud of it!

Gary Stewart- “Drinkin’ Thing”

One of the all time great voices in country music, Gary Stewart. He had such a way to elicit emotion that few others have been able to replicate. He’s kind of the quintessential “sad drinking song” classic country artist. If you’re just wanting to sit around with friends and really be in a beer drinking or whiskey sipping mode, you can’t go wrong with Gary!

Dub Miller – “Fightin’ Texas Aggie”

There was a great Twitter conversation we got mentioned in about when it comes to Chicken music, you can’t forget about Dub Miller. He’s long been a favorite of ours since he name dropped us in his “Fightin’ Texas Aggie” song. Make no mistake though, he’s got an amazing collection of songs that are good for all sorts of summer hangouts. Queue him up on your playlists, but we’d be lying if we didn’t say we weren’t partial to one of his very first big songs!

Cody Johnson – “Wild As You”

Cody Johnson is simply one of the best in today’s country music. A rodeo cowboy who stays true to his brand of country. We’ve got a special place in our heart for Cody and his band. They took early band pictures about 10 years ago in Bottle Cap Alley and at the Chicken. Two of his band members went to A&M and his drummer Miles is a proud graduate who is always sporting a Dixie Chicken shirt on tour. You put some CoJo on at any party this weekend, you’re sure to get your lady ready for some slow dancing. Go ahead and throw on “Wild As You” and test that theory.

If that’s not enough for you, you can always listen to any of our playlists on our Spotify!
