After searching through Don Ganter’s personal album collection, we ran across a true gem!
Few albums in country music history are as iconic as Willie Nelson’s 1978 Stardust. At the time it was pretty risky. Willie was riding a high of 1975’s Red Headed Stranger and Wanted! The Outlaws. Doing an album of all pop standards could have really hurt him. Willie took great pop songs like “Georgia On My Mind” and “Unchained Melody” and put his twist on it. For almost 40 years, the album has stood the test of time and in 2015 was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
You might notice there are no check marks beside any of the tracks as there were in previous albums we’ve looked at. We’re taking this to mean that Don Ganter had no problems playing any of these songs at the Dixie Chicken. Most of the songs are very low key, so we’d like to imagine on a lazy fall/winter Sunday afternoon, putting this whole album on over a few Lone Stars and a game or 2 of 42.
