The Dixie Chicken celebrates 45 years on June 15, 2019! It means a lot to us to have had the love and support we’ve experienced since 1974 to still be here. We’re going to celebrate the best way we know how, with a big weekend of fun!
Saturday, we’ll have FREE live music on the promenade starting at noon!
We’ll kick things off with our friends from the Texas Music Pickers Showcase: Holly Beth! They always find and pick amazing talent to showcase from around the state of Texas and we’re excited to see Holly!
William Beckmann put on a heck of a show for our Texas Independence Day concert and was so impressive, we had to have him back for our birthday.
Over the last few years, we’ve had the pleasure to have Sarah Green host open mic nights at Chicken Oil Co. and to play the back porch. As far as up and coming Aggie singer/songwriters go, she’s one of the absolute best!
Joining Sarah for a song swap is our pal Geoff Spahr! Geoff not only played our 40th Birthday, but he also hosted Hornback Humpday’s at Alfred T. Hornback’s for a number of years. He brought in great songwriters like Drew Kennedy, Bleu Edmondson, Django Walker, Max Stalling, among others on a weekly basis for shows that are still talked about today!
Speaking of songwriters, Josh Grider and Drew Kennedy have made their names known throughout Texas and beyond on the backs of their songwriting. These two friends have been up and down the road many times and recently recorded a live album together, which will be coming out just in time for our birthday!
Dalton Domino has been lighting up the Texas music chart and the Texas music scene for the last couple of years. His music has become some of the most requested at the front bar. We can’t wait to welcome him to the back porch for the first time!
One guy that we’re always excited to have join us is our old friend, and a Fightin’ Texas Aggie, Dub Miller. He has a love and respect for the Dixie Chicken that is almost unparalleled. His songs are stories that resonate within this old walls and we’re honored to have him grace our stage once again.
In terms of all time great Aggie artists, Robert Earl Keen and Lyle Lovett are undoubtedly at the top of the mountain, but it wouldn’t be hard to put Roger Creager just under them. With a career spanning 20 years now and some of the most iconic songs in Texas Music history, Roger still always makes time to join us at the Chicken when he’s in town. On June 15th, he’ll be in town and on the back porch to help us celebrate 45 years of the Dixie Chicken!
We are very excited about all of these amazing performers taking their time and bringing their talents to the Chicken. It’ll be an amazing day that we can’t wait to share with all of our friends! Go ahead and make your plans to join us and we’ll be dropping more details in the coming weeks!
In addition to the live music fun, we’ll also be hosting a domino tournament on Sunday! Our friends from the National 42 Players Association will be back putting it on. If you’d like to sign up, registration starts at 10A on June 16th. For more details, or if you have any questions, check out our Facebook Event page for the tournament.
